LLU School of Medicine Leonard Werner Education Fund
Dr. Leonard Werner, MD is a legendary physician educator who has had an indelible impact on medical school graduates at Loma Linda University. Since 1981, Dr. Werner has taught over 6,000 medical students with a passion to create knowledgeable, skilled physicians who are lifelong learners. Graduates taught by Dr. Werner have impacted millions of lives worldwide. Serving as Senior Associate Dean of Medical Student Education, Dr. Werner assembled a committed and talented team to develop the clinical skills department and collaborated to create the simulation center.
Dr. Werner was an intern and completed his internal medicine residency at Loma Linda University in 1981. In response to a growing interest in teaching, the School of Medicine first appointed Dr. Werner as course director for freshman Physical Diagnosis and Interviewing (1982), then later asked him to develop a new sophomore course called Pathophysiology and Applied Physical Diagnosis (1983). He has over 42 years of experience as a practicing physician.
In the 2021 academic year, Dr. Werner is teaching his last pathophysiology course at Loma Linda University. To celebrate his legacy, the School of Medicine has created the SM Leonard Werner Education fund in his honor.

Students that took courses from Dr. Werner remember him with a can of Dr. Pepper in his hand for every lecture! On birthdays they would give him cases of Dr. Pepper or Dr. Werner memorabilia, as you can see from the pictures below. Every picture or drawing includes a can of Dr. Pepper or students' own creations with the Dr. Pepper design. Dr. Werner leaves a mark on each and every student.
